Book Group Takes on Sibling Rivalry

What is Blackwater Theology?
Join us on Friday March 28th at 2:00pm in the Library Lecture Room (main floor) for a presentation by Humanities professor, Dustin Byrd. Blackwater is America's largest private military firm, employing hundred of private soldiers in the Middle East and beyond. Behind this corporation is its owner and founder, Eric Prince. Professor Byrd will attempt to shed lights on how Eric Prince's religious and theological views contribute to the actions of Blackwater in Iraq, in addition to his political actions in the United States. You will be fascinated by these insights and ideas!

Service Day at Olivet College
Burrage Library is sponsoring a MATS FOR CATS effort to benefit the Capital Area Humane Society in Lansing, Michigan. Create knitted, crocheted or sewn cat mats (20x28") to donate to needy cats. Join us in the main lobby of the Library, 10:30am-3:00pm on Wednesday, March 26, 2008. We will supply donated materials to make cat mats and each participant receives a certificate of appreciation. NOTE: We had 34 participants and created 38 mats. All materials and supplies were donated by a few staff members. Thanks Everyone!!!
Easter Egg Hunt at Burrage Library
Hey Kids! Meet in the Library Lobby (main floor) at 10:00am on Saturday, March 22nd. We will hunt around the library's ground floor for eggs! Please note, children must be accompanied by an adult. Diana Webb, Assistant Professor of Financial Planning, will speak to her favoriete topic on Wednesday, February 20th at 4:00pm. Ms. Webb is graciously volunteering her time in support of the Hosford Society of Scholars, a student organization founded at Olivet College in 2003. This is the animated story of a little penguin named Mumble who has a terrible singing voice and later discovers he has no Heartsong. However, Mumble has an astute talent for something that none of the penguins had ever seen before: tap dancing. Though Mumble's mom, Norma Jean, thinks this little habit is cute, his dad, Memphis, says it "just ain't penguin." Using courage and bravery, Mumble begins to teach everyone that uniqueness is not a burden, but is a gift to be treasured.

On a Thursday night they have a big argument in a Chinese restaurant. Both receive a fortune cookie from the restaurant owner's mother which causes them to switch bodies next day. As they adjust with their new personalities, they begin to understand each other more and eventually it is mutual self-respect that sorts things out.

Learn More About Malcolm X
Dustin Byrd, Humanities Department, will present a lecture entitled "Malcolm X's Political and Religious Philosophy." Byrd will examine Malcolm's intellectual development from his days in Michigan to his untimely death in Harlem in 1965. Malcolm X was not only an important figure in the Civil Rights struggle, but had a lasting impact on National Liberation struggles worldwide. We will critically examine his philosophy and legacy, attempt to move it out of the slogans, and shed light on the man who changed America but got little credit for it.
