In the early years of jazz, the critical philosopher and composer Theodor Adorno harshly criticized jazz as a form of music. He developed an entire critical sociology of music; one that was completely intolerant of jazz and the "liberational" claims of jazz musicians. Was Adorno's criticism legitimate?
