Reformation of Islam?

Since 9/11, conversations have turned towards a discussion of Islam and Muslims. In this discussion, we will ask what is meant by a needed reformation of Islam. We will ask whether or not it is a "renewal" of Islam that the Muslims truly need. Join us on Friday, April 3rd at 1PM in the Library Lecture Room (main floor) for a talk by Professor Dustin Byrd.

165 Years Under the Oaks: a look back at Olivet's history

Saturday Crafts on March 28th

Learn About the Cultures of Tajikistan & Uzbekistan

Come to the Library Lecture Room (main floor) on March 26th, 7:00PM, to learn more about Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Kyle Vanderhyde and Jason Brew, seniors, will share their experiences travelling through these countries while wrestling for the College. This event is sponsored by the Hosford Society of Scholars, Olivet College.

She will explore Philip Jenkins' recent book (2006) concerning Christianity's center of gravity moving away from Western Europe and North America to Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Adorno's Critical Sociology of Jazz, or What's Adorno's Problem?

In the early years of jazz, the critical philosopher and composer Theodor Adorno harshly criticized jazz as a form of music. He developed an entire critical sociology of music; one that was completely intolerant of jazz and the "liberational" claims of jazz musicians. Was Adorno's criticism legitimate?
